Guayaquil is also known as the “Pearl of The Pacific”, as dubbed by early explorers in the 18th century, and to this day it delights visitors from around the world. As the largest coastal city in Ecuador, it serves as a major economic hub, and has a rich history to be explored. One of the must-see, or shall we say “must-ride,” attractions in the city is La Perla (The Pearl) Ferris Wheel.
Built in 2015, this 57 meter (187 ft) ferris wheel placed right along the Guayas River, on its very own doc, gives you spectacular views of the river, city, historical center, and of locals and tourists passing by. This iconic ferris wheel is the largest in all of Latin America, well suited to such a grandiose city. A total of 216 people can enter, with 6 to each of the enclosed cars, so you can easily enjoy the 12-minute “round-trip” with your friends and family.
During the day, La Perla sparkles bright white in the hot coastal sun, living up to its name, and at night it is lit up with a beautiful array of LED lights that reflect their various dancing colors off the water. Just one of the many beautiful attractions of Guayaquil, La Perla is a great place to take a rest from walking along the beautiful promenade and get the best views in the city.
