Ecuador is considered what many call “a biodiversity hotspot” – meaning that it has an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, especially for such a small region, and this of course also applies to birds. Ecuador is home to about 1500 different species of birds, and those are just the ones that we are sure of! The other exciting part to this is that each distinct region of Ecuador – jungle, highlands, and coast (and The Galapagos Islands!) – have their own distinct species to be found there. From its some 130 plus hummingbirds species to the largest of all scavengers, the andean condor, you are sure to fill your camera’s memory card and exponentially increase your lifer list.
Though Costa Rica is considered one of the most desirable birding destinations in the world, it falls short of Ecuador with about 800 bird species, meaning Ecuador is the best place to come birding if you are really passionate about seeing as many new bird species as you can. From the wide open coast to the deepest densest part of the Amazon rainforest, you will have plenty of opportunities to observe and photograph different birds. Even the largest cities support a range of hummingbirds in their metropotalian parks, or even buzzing between flowering trees along the sidewalk throughout town. Make sure you do not leave your binoculars at home!
No matter which of our journeys you choose, you are sure to be delighted by an incredible range of birds, flowers, and other plants and animals everywhere you turn. Inquire with us today which trip would be best for you.
